Zurich, Switzerland; July 15, 2010 – Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators, has been watching the proliferation of managed services and the impact the trend is having on the roaming industry.

The global economic downturn has left network operators looking for ways to reduce CAPEX and OPEX without compromising service for their subscribers. Outsourcing services is a way for operators to maintain the highest quality of service and, at the same time, reduce overhead.

In line with recent trends and to accommodate operator requirements, Starhome announced today that it is unbundling its managed service offering to allow mobile operators to select a combination of managed services most suited to their needs. Starhome is currently the only roaming solutions provider to offer managed services. The company utilizes its high-capacity, privately held global redundant IP network to monitor global services, as well as hardware, software and roaming traffic at the operator site.

Starhome’s new services offering covers a range of managed services including:

Zurich, Switzerland; 2 June, 2010 – Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators, today announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Roamware, Inc., AT&T Mobility LLC and T-Mobile USA, Inc., in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

Starhome’s Complaint alleges infringement of Starhome’s patents by defendants’ provision of international roaming wireless telephone services to subscribers and telecommunications companies. The Complaint accuses the defendants of infringing United States Patents 6,920,487 and 7,231,431, each entitled “System and Methods for Global Access to Services for Mobile Telephone Subscribers.” Starhome is seeking damages and a judgment enjoining further infringement.

“Starhome’s products and services provide innovative wireless mobility solutions to enhance international roaming,” said Neta Bloch, General Counsel of Starhome. “Starhome appreciates the significant value our patents confer to our business and intends to aggressively protect our rights.”

The Patents cover the core technology of the Starhome® Intelligent Call Assistant® (ICA) solution and the Starhome® Home Short Code™ (HSC) solution, among other services.

The Starhome HSC solution is one of the first and most fundamental roaming solutions of the VHE (virtual home environment) concept. The seamless, feature-rich solution can convert unrecognized home short codes into valid phone numbers and provide mobile operators with a basis to increase their revenue potential from both the inbound and outbound international roaming market.

The Starhome ICA supplements the HSC solution. ICA overcomes international dialing difficulties by automatically correcting or completing misdialled numbers. As the majority of these calls are never redialed, ICA significantly increases roaming revenues for operators. ICA has a rich user interface that, among other capabilities, can allow combinations of seamless call completion, native-language voice interaction and post-dialing SMS notification, and support for prepaid or postpaid communities with respect to both inbound and outbound roamers.

Eitan Achlow, CEO of Starhome explained: “Over the course of the last 10 years, Starhome has spent a considerable amount of time and resources in developing the Home Short Code and the Intelligent Call Assistant solutions, both of which are included in our patent-protected portfolio. Starhome invests heavily in intellectual property and realizes the importance of protecting these innovations and technology.”

Zurich, Switzerland, April 21, 2010 – Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators are leading the way in combating illegal Anti-SoR practices still being employed by some operators.

Anti-SoR (steering of roaming) is defined as any tool that can block update location messages from reaching the steering platform by sending misleading signalling to deceive the steering application. Anti-SoR practices not only result in a substantial loss of revenue for operators, it also disrupts subscriber services by not supplying the optimum services given by the home network operator. The continued and widespread use of illegal Anti-SoR practices has led operators to block roaming agreements if Anti-SoR practices are being employed.

To identify potential Anti-SoR activities, the home network operator must instigate a lengthy three-phase manual process that includes a daily examination of roaming revenue distribution, signal tracing and testing.

The Starhome® Anti-SoR Detector™ continuously monitors traffic statistics and allows the operator to detect potential revenue leakage by identifying Anti-SoR activities such as the blocking of update-location messages from reaching their steering of roaming platform, locking roamers into a network, and simulation of manual selection. Starhome’s Anti-SoR Detector has built-in logic to identify exceptional drops or peaks in traffic statistics as well as unexpected signaling. Upon detection, the Anti-SoR Detector has the ability to apply resistance signaling to defeat Anti-SoR attempts as well as trigger the appropriate alarm to the operator. Starhome’s Anti-SoR Detector solution interoperates with Starhome's NG-IPN (Next Generation Intelligent Preferred Network) solution).

Shlomo Wolfman, co-founder and COO of Starhome commented, “The roaming market is an extremely competitive market, and, unfortunately, illegitimate tools, such as Anti-SoR, are still being used to steer traffic away from preferred networks, which, of course, results in a substantial loss of revenue for the operator. Starhome’s Anti-SoR Detector detects potential use of Anti-SoR activities to protect the operator’s business.”

On user request, the Anti-SoR Detector displays the top 10 networks with the highest gaps. Operators can then focus on these networks and generate detection reports to discover whether Anti-SoR techniques have been employed.

Mr. Wolfman continued, “Starhome keeps abreast of all the new SoR and Anti-SoR developments in the market. This information is used to enhance the Anti-SoR detection capabilities and will be made available and incorporated into the Anti-SoR Detector solution.”

Zurich, Switzerland, April 1, 2010 – One of the key issues in today’s mobile roaming market is the challenge faced by network operators to protect revenues. Since inbound traffic provides the visited network operator (VPMN) with the bulk of total roaming revenue, any loss of inbound roamers causes an immediate impact on the balance sheet. Consequently, network operators are placing a greater emphasis on home network control to maintain inbound roamers and reduce network costs.

The Starhome® Gateway Location Register™ works by providing a mechanism for aggregating individual MSCs (mobile switch control) to reduce the MAP (Mobile Application Part) signalling between the HPMN (Home Public Mobile Network) and the VPMN (Visited Public Mobile Network). As a result, the Gateway Location Register provides the VPMN with the ability to significantly reduce the amount of signaling messages sent to its signaling provider and toward other Home Public Mobile Networks (HPMNs).

Throughout the last 10 years, Starhome has led the roaming market with pioneering solutions. Its Gateway Location Register was the first solution of its kind to be introduced to the market more than three years ago, gaining Starhome a strategic advantage over its competitors.

Starhome’s experience of providing more than 65 successful live installations of its Gateway Location Register solution has shown that it is the preferred solution, providing proven results while complying with GSMA standard recommendations.
Shlomo Wolfman, co-founder and COO of Starhome commented: “Operators can feel confident of using Starhome’s Gateway Location Register as a means to increase their inbound market share. The Gateway Location Register is a standard and legitimate form of practice to manage and optimize operator’s inbound roaming traffic”.

The Starhome® Gateway Location Register™ has enhanced capabilities that go beyond the 3GPP standard; with more than 65 implementations of the Gateway Location Register, 20% of which are in Tier 1 operators, the solution provides the network infrastructure with intelligent roaming capabilities to monitor, manage, optimize and maintain a high quality of service for inbound roamer traffic.

Zurich, Switzerland, March 24, 2010 – Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators, today announced that it has received a long-awaited patent for its Home Short Code solution.

In 1999, Starhome applied for a patent for the Home Short Code solution, one of the first and most basic solutions of the VHE (Virtual Home Environment) concept. The Home Short Code is a seamless, feature-rich solution that converts unrecognized home short codes into valid international formatted numbers and provides the mobile operator with a basis to increase its revenue potential from both the inbound and outbound roaming markets. In addition, the Starhome® Home Short Code™ solution supports CLI delivery for both inbound and outbound roamers and is not bound to a specific international carrier.

Shai Ophir, Starhome’s Intellectual Property Manager added: “It has taken 10 years for Starhome to receive a patent for the Home Short Code solution. The prolonged process involved extensive examination before the patent could be granted.”

More than 100 of Starhome’s customers have already deployed the Home Short Code solution that allows both inbound and outbound roamers seamless access their home VAS (Value Added Services). Mobile network operators can quickly expand their earning potential by continuing to serve their subscribers whenever and wherever they travel and also by attracting inbound travellers for the duration of their visits and encouraging the use of further Value Added Services and international airtime.

When an inbound international traveler dials a short code that has not been defined as a valid local short code in the mobile operator’s MSC (mobile switching center), the call is transferred to the visited Starhome IntelliGate™ platform for processing. The IntelliGate analyzes the validity of the short code in relation to the caller’s home country and HPMN (Home Public Mobile Network) and with respect to the roaming network short codes and dialling rules. Finally the IntelliGate converts the dialed short code into an internationally formatted number and routes it back to the visited network MSC.

The Home Short Code is a complete service that supports postpaid and prepaid market segments for both CAMEL and Non CAMEL. The solution can also be used for one roaming segment only.

Starhome Joins Forces with a European Consortium to Share its Wealth of Knowledge about Roaming for a Public Safety Communications Project

Zurich, Switzerland, March 2, 2010 – Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators, today announced that it is participating in the CELTIC FT-PSC (Federated Test bed for Public Safety Communications) Consortium. The project is focusing on public safety and disaster management and includes developing communications among national operators during emergency situations.

The FT-PSC project is addressing the lack of existing public safety communications and information systems interoperability and the effect it has on emergency response times during an emergency situation. Currently, establishing direct roaming relations among national operators is problematic, as competitive operators do not generally have bilateral roaming relations. However in an emergency situation, if one network crashes or does not have coverage in specific area, other networks should provide backup. The Starhome® Roaming Broker solution for new generation networks will be developed in the project as an alternative to bi-lateral operator roaming agreements.

Shlomo Wolfman, Starhome’s co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, commented: “The need for international roaming in emergency situations is of paramount importance. We are excited to take part in the FT-PSC project, which will enable European carriers to use Starhome’s New Generation Roaming Broker technology as a potential life-saving tool. Starhome has contributed over 10 years of notable roaming knowledge to the industry and is always looking for ways to assist.”.
Starhome’s Roaming Broker solution for new generation networks can be used on a day-to-day basis between operators who do not wish to spend time and resources in signing costly and lengthy agreements with numerous operators in order to provide sufficient services for their subscribers. Moreover, the roaming world is dynamic and constantly becoming more complex. In the next generation IP world, the situation will be even more complex, where legacy networks will be involved with LTE (4th generation) networks, players from the WiFi/WiMAX arena, and fixed-line and cable operators. Starhome’s Roaming Broker for new generation networks takes on the hybrid scenario of legacy and new generation.

CELTIC is a European R&D programme that initiates and runs privately and publicly funded Information and Communication Technology (ICT)/telecommunications R&D projects. The FT-PSC Consortium members include: Atos Origin, ES, CREATE-NET, IT, Deltabit, FI, Innovalia Association, ES, IPv6 Forum Slovakia, SK, Ministère d'Etat, LU, Nethawk Oyj, FI, Nextel, ES, Sec-Control, FI, Securitas, FI, SES Astra, LU, Software Quality Systems (SQS), ES, Telindus, LU, University of Trencin, SK, UPV, ES and VTT, FI.

    END

      About CELTIC FT-PSC
The FT-PSC CELTIC project is building federated European test bed for testing of public safety communication and information systems. The test bed will allow European telecom manufactures and software providers to carry out tests and evaluation of their products, results of R&D projects in international environment with participation of public safety users. The Federated test bed will make possible to test large scale heterogeneous communication systems including the heterogeneous networks simultaneously based on several standards such as GPRS, UMTS, WLAN, WiMax, PMR (TETRA, TETRPOL, P25). The integrated - deployable and fixed networks for public safety will be part of the federated test bed. The established federated test bed will create a platform for interoperability and conformance testing of communication and information systems for public safety that will be carried out with industrial participation and participation of TETRA association and other interested organizations.

From 3rd March, Mobile Operators can enjoy a Patented Roaming Voicemail Tromboning Solution that Complies with the new EU Regulations

Zurich, Switzerland; February 15, 2010 – Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators, today announced that on the 3rd of March, 2010, the European Patent Office will grant a patent for its Roaming Voicemail Tromboning Technology. The solution will not only increase operator revenue, but will also reduce subscriber costs, two major concerns for mobile operators.

Tromboning occurs when two unnecessary international calls are forwarded back home while the subscriber is roaming. The new regulation states that operators will no longer be able to charge subscribers for voicemail deposits that are forwarded back home while roaming within the EU. Without Starhome’s Optimal Voicemail Deposit solution, operators will either have to cover the costs for the trombone call or disable call forwarding for subscribers, both of which will lose them revenue, and subscribers.

Starhome’s Optimal Voicemail Deposit benefits both the operator and the subscriber. The revenue-generating solution reduces operator costs while encouraging use of both airtime and voicemail. Its unique ability supports the operator’s business decisions to maximize revenue provided per VPMN (visited public mobile network), per subscriber segments (prepaid, postpaid and VPN) and also for multiple simultaneous call flows. Moreover, subscribers benefit from reduced charges since Optimal Voicemail Deposit bypasses international legs for voicemail.

Shlomo Wolfman, COO and co-founder at Starhome commented, “Operators who invest in Starhome’s Optimal Voicemail Deposit will obtain a technology that complies with the new EU regulations as well as guaranteeing a quick ROI. We have successfully deployed and integrated the Optimal Voicemail Deposit solution at multiple mobile operator sites around the world. Mobile operators reported an increase in customer satisfaction and reduced costs”.

Zurich, Switzerland; January 26, 2010 – Current roaming trends have resulted in decreasing revenues, declining margins and fierce operator competition. Starhome, the leading provider of roaming solutions, focuses on the current market trends and the effect they are having on the mobile operator in meeting their business challenges.

New regulations, roaming price reductions, stiff competition and a sharp rise in data roaming traffic are some of the current trends forcing operators to search for different deployment options and advanced solutions to increase traffic, optimize costs, and meet their goals. These dynamic changes in the roaming market have affected the three main areas of business within the operator’s organization; Retail, Wholesale and Operations.

To better serve its customers, Starhome conducted several workshops and brainstorming sessions with managers from each area of the mobile operator business. The conclusion: operators need intrinsic solutions for each area of business to achieve maximum results and meet their specific business targets.

With Starhome’s tailored solutions, each business area within the mobile operator can better meet its specific objectives:

Retail – requires solutions to stimulate and increase roaming traffic and usability. Sparx, Starhome’s dynamic interactive roamers’ marketing and relations management tool, sends multi-campaign types to outbound roamers and generates revenue by promoting operator and third-party offerings. The Roaming Control™ solution prevents "bill shock" by allowing users to set limits for data and voice expenses while roaming. These are just two solution examples of how operators can offer innovative packages while providing much greater value to their roamers, and, ultimately generate higher roaming traffic volumes on their network.

Wholesale – requires solutions to assist in meeting wholesale targets and IOT discount agreements. Starhome offers solutions to enable wholesale teams to assess actual usage against set goals and agreements and maximize business results. The Next Generation Intelligent Preferred Network® solution is a revenue-based steering of roaming solution that sets business targets for voice, SMS and data. In addition, Starhome’s Gateway Location Register (GLR) enables the VPMN to retain inbound roamers on its network and decrease international signaling traffic.

Operations – requires solutions to optimize network efficiency and reduce total cost of ownership. Starhome offers various solutions to provide the engineering and network planning departments with the capabilities to closely monitor the effectiveness of their roaming network. Starhome’s Leakage Identifier™ solution provides key information about roamers’ location changes and identifies leakage of inbound roamers to a competing network. The Optimal Voicemail Deposit™ solution eliminates international voicemail tromboning to reduce operator costs and subscriber charges.

Starhome’s supplies these solutions with unique reporting, analysis and decision-making tools, to stimulate and increase roaming traffic and optimize costs for each area of the business

Amit Daniel, VP Marketing at Starhome, added: “Fast-moving trends are dominating the mobile roaming world. Across-the-board solutions are no longer adequate in assisting operators in meeting their business targets. Intrinsic solutions facilitate better results and enable each area of business to meet their individual business goals”

Starhome extends an open invitation to come see our demos and case studies of operators who have deployed our solutions. We will be in at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, February 15-18, 2010Stand 1E32.

New interactive marketing and relations management solution will transform roaming mobile marketing by enabling mobile operators to accurately target outbound roamers during their trip.

Zurich, Switzerland; November 26, 2009

  – Industry experts at Starhome®, the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators, have announced that the upcoming release of the much anticipated Sparx™ solution will change the face of the roaming mobile market and set a new standard for interactive roaming campaigns.

“Sparx, an interactive roamers’ marketing and relations management tool, will revolutionize roaming mobile advertising by providing mobile operators with the information and means necessary to accurately target and serve outbound roamers,” said Amit Daniel, Vice President of Marketing for Starhome. “Real-time reporting and analysis, as well as micro-segmentation, will enable mobile operators to know the optimal times for contacting outbound roamers. This will not only drastically increase operators’ revenues, but it will also deliver a significant improvement in the user experience.”

Click here to view a short video about this new, innovative marketing tool.

One of the major problems faced by mobile operators today is that the roamer’s visiting period provides a limited window of opportunity for communicating with outbound roamers and generating revenues. This problem is exacerbated by reliance solely on static segmentation and campaigns not based on roamers’ feedback during their visits. Current solutions do not use the history of specific roamers as the basis for upcoming campaigns and utilize a limited number of triggers and events during the visit.

Information about roaming subscribers’ movements and behavior patterns, together with their roaming usage, is accumulated by Sparx from a range of sources. Sparx then generates dynamic and logical follow-up marketing campaigns for each roaming subscriber. Campaigns are created and sent when multi-triggers are received that are based on the roamers’ attributes and events. Triggers are also used to generate dynamic ad-hoc campaigns based on roamers’ feedback and usage history, resulting in the right message being sent, at the right time to the right person.
Mobile operators will also be able to continuously communicate with their outbound roaming subscribers via a compliant cross-media communication that best fits both the operators and the subscribers, including SMS, MMS, WAP push, email, etc.

Sparx is a versatile solution that will not only enhance mobile operators’ solutions and services, but will also generate revenues from third-party organizations. Mobile operators using Sparx will possess a platform for affiliated marketing, meaning advertisements can be embedded inside messages and promotions, and these advertisements can either promote third parties or the operators’ other services and features.

“A decrease in traditional revenue has created new incentives for cross-promotional agreements, opportunities and partnerships, as well as the promotion of services that meet the needs of different segments. We are pleased to provide a tool to satisfy this need,” said Daniel. “Sparx’s real-time reporting and analysis, ability to micro-segment, utilization of real-time events and triggers and control of roaming usage and expenses really differentiate this solution.”

“Sparx has already been chosen by several leading operators seeking to differentiate themselves from their competition by more accurately targeting their end users and providing them with added value”, added Daniel.
-ENDS-

About Starhome
Starhome® is the leading provider and acknowledged driving force of roaming services for mobile network operators.
